Recreational Music Center takes an innovative approach to music instruction with cutting-edge technology, engaging group settings, and exciting repertoire choices. Here at RMC, students learn to play the kind of music they listen to every day, and become musicians for life!

Biography - Kristy Aragon

Kristy Aragon Educational Director - Kristy Aragon grew up near Toronto, Ontario, Canada and started taking private piano and voice lessons at the age of five and performed in The Young Singers of Ajax, an elite children's chorus. At the age of nine she performed in 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' starring Donny Osmond for a year at the O'Keefe Center in Toronto.

She moved to Tucson, AZ in 1997. In middle and high school she learned the violin, alto saxophone, continued with piano and voice, and added dance and drama to the mix. She was the lead in three high school productions, participated in regional choir as first and second chair and was also an All State choir participant. There she performed under the direction of Dr. Z. Randall Stroope, Dr. Brian Ebie, and Dr. Bruce Chamberlain. She also took private voice lessons for six years from Linda Spevacek, renowned composer and arranger.

Kristy graduated from The University of Arizona in 2008 with a bachelors degree in Choral Music Education. Under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Schauer she was a member of the Symphonic Choir, U of A's premier undergraduate ensemble for four years. Kristy also held several leadership roles including vice-president and president of Symphonic choir, secretary for the University of Arizona student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ADCA), chair of organizing the western tour, and section leader. While completing her internship with the U of A's Outreach Choir (a chorus designed for excelling high school musicians), Kristy received the Green Valley Scholarship award for excellence in conducting and choral leadership. Kristy also has a passion for dance and choreography. She worked with Ironwood Ridge High School located in Tucson, AZ for six years. During her time there she choreographed five musicals and twelve show choir competition shows, one of which won outstanding choreography at the National competition "FAME" in Orlando, FL.

Kristy has taught at the preschool, elementary, middle, and high school levels. Her ensembles have won superior ratings at ACDA and ChoDA (Choral Directors of Arizona) state festivals and have performed in many community and public events.

Kristy is excited to be the Educational Director, Director of Early Childhood Music and teach private voice and piano lessons at Recreational Music Center! She is married to her high school sweetheart, Michael, and they recently welcomed their first child, Josiah in December of 2010.
