Biography - Josh Hermsmeier

Josh Hermsmeier grew up in a musical family in Sacramento, California. When he was eight years old, his parents bought him his first drum set (sparkly orange colored) and enrolled him in lessons at a local music shop/teaching studio. Learning how to read music at such an early age proved invaluable. Eventually Josh moved to San Diego, California to attend Point Loma Nazarene University. There, he studied with Pat Pfiffner, a San Diego great with an endless list of percussion credentials. Pat helped Josh get connected with the entertainment department at Sea World where he auditioned and was offered a job playing in a percussion show at the park's newest feature.

Following college, Josh earned a Master's degree in history and taught at several of the local colleges. He had a great time working as an adjunct professor, but realized that he needed to stop because he wanted to pursue a full-time career in music. Since then, Josh has had the privilege of playing with a few Grammy Award winning artists, but is mostly known for his past and present work in the local scene with artists including Gregory Page, Erin McCarley, Greg Laswell, Anya Marina, Lindsey Yung, Molly Jenson, Kim Divine, Josh Damigo, Rheanna Downey, and many more.

Josh loves teaching the drums and especially teaching people how to read music. He has done this privately for more than ten years and hopes to do it for many more. If you are out on the town and happen to see somebody playing a sparkly orange colored bass drum, go up and say hi. It just might be Josh..
