Musical Families

Musical Family (Ages 1-4)
Cost per lesson: $15

If you have more than one child between newborn and 4 years of age, or if you prefer your child experience music "family style," you'll love this fun, inclusive class for mixed ages. Parents and older children will be encouraged to model activities for the younger ones. Expect a variety of songs and games with something for everyone!

Musical Friends Musical Babies (Ages Newborn-18 months)
Cost per lesson: $10

Musical Me (Ages 2-3)
Musical Friends (Ages 3-4)
Cost per lesson: $15

Parents and children experience music together! Parents model developmentally appropriate activities that their children can observe and/or mimic. Children's natural instruments - their voices - are the perfect beginning point for musical exploration, which includes listening, movement, and instrument play. Children and their families will be encouraged to continue activities outside class to extend each child's learning into the home.

All classes (Musical Babies, Musical Me and Musical Friends) are ages specific and although some songs and excercises will be similar in each class the instruction and exploration time will vary depending on age appropriateness.

Early Childhood Classes at RMC (by Executive Director, Leslie Gereghty):
Our focus on babies and music is to promote the beautiful bond between parent(s) and child through music. A baby's emotional development (including self-esteem later in life) is closely tied to parents' facial expressions and physical touch in the early years. The more we can assist in creating wonderful bonding moments, the happier we are knowing that we are contributing to a happy, healthy child.

For 2-3 year olds, we begin to focus more on musical goals such as steady beat, high and low, up and down, etc. . . these are the foundational concepts critical to developing talent and the more quickly a child can grasp these concepts, the better musician he/she will be.

By age 3, we begin to focus on preparing children for instrumental music study. We add theory concepts and activities at the guitar, drum kits, and full size pianos. These activities provide a foundation for developing an interest in a particular instrument (many show a clear preference from an early age if given exposure to a variety of real instruments) as well as the basic information on each instrument (names of the strings, keys, drums, etc.) Learning these concepts at an age when fine motor skills aren't quite caught up to the brain makes learning an instrument go much more quickly for 4-6 year olds later on.

We teach these classes with the above goals in mind through a variety of traditional, classical, and contemporary styles of music.

"We enjoy the use of different kinds of instruments, amazing staff and convenient location."
- Alyssa (parent of Musical Me student)
