Who is it for?
This camp is for music lovers! Perhaps you listen to your i-Pod ALL DAY LONG. . . Perhaps you love video games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band and want to try the real thing. . . perhaps you are a band or orchestra student who wants to try out a different style of music and/or instruments just for fun over the summer. . .or maybe you already play the piano, guitar, or drums and would like to be able to play your favorite songs with others. RMC's Summer Music Camp is meant to provide a fun and relaxed instructional atmosphere that will further a love of music. If you are already an advanced musician, this may not be the right place for you.
What will we learn?
On the first day of camp, attendees will help choose the songs they want to learn from a list provided by the instructors. The list will include a variety of popular songs from the hit video game Rock Band, popular movie tunes, contemporary praise and worship music, and familiar classic rock hits. During the week, campers will learn a basic rock beat on the drums, along with a few fills. On the Guitar and keyboards everyone will learn several chords and a few cool licks. By the end of the week, students will know a few tunes that they can "jam" on. Intermediate students can expect a similar format with more advanced chords/voicings, fills, and licks. Students who excel at a particular instrument will be given a more challenging part to play on their instrument and/or be encouraged to spend more time on a less familiar instrument.
Do I need to own an instrument?
All instruments and equipment are provided by RMC. Students can enjoy learning the instruments without having one at home, and do not need to bring their instrument to camp.
How much does it cost?
Tuition is $299 per Session. Discounts are available if booking multiple Sessions in advance. Call for more information: 619-225-9597.
What are the hours? Monday-Friday 10am to 4pm (pickup/drop-off 9-10am, 4-5pm). Campers may be dropped off as early as 9 am and may stay as late as 5 pm any/every day of the week to practice on the instruments or play Rock Band. Pick-up and drop-off times are offered as a convenience only; this is supervised, but unstructured "free-time" for campers. Regular instructors will be planning and preparing for their classes during this time and may not be available for instruction.
What about lunch and snacks?
RMC will provide healthy snacks and bottled water throughout the day. Campers will need to pack a non-perishable lunch each day.

Recreational Music Center Summer Music Camp REVIEWS written by parents of past campers:
"My 12 year old plays the guitar daily, and regularly plays drums and keyboard. My 10 year old daughter plays the keyboard regularly and performed an improvised song in a talent show. I attribute much of their musical growth to their participation in last year's RMC Summer Camp. David, Leslie, and the other teachers inspire their students to be lifelong musicians. They are people of integrity, gentleness, and generosity"
- Yelp Review of RMC's Summer Music Camp
"My son attended the Rock Band Camp last summer and loved it! He is already a guiatarist and had fun practicing on guitars different from his own. He also learned more about keyboard and percussion by using all of the cool equipment available at the camp. The instructors were friendly and knowledgable and he enjoyed getting to know different types of kids. He did the camp for two weeks and wishes he could have done more. A great camp if your kid really is interesed in exploring music. We're going to go again and bring a friend this time!"

"I also wanted to let you know that Brady has been raving about the camp, he is having so much fun and wants me to pick him up as late as possible. It is really wonderful to know he is having such a good time and learning so much. Thank you for providing an environment that is safe and enjoyable for both of my boys."
- Parent of Summer Music Camp and guitar students at RMC
"Geared really for older elementary through middle school, but is good for anyone who wants to learn an instrument. David, Leslie, and the entire RMC team are GREAT with kids! This camp is all about the rock band experience - teaching the kids keyboard, drums and the electric guitar. Fun time is taken up either with field games at the local Liberty Station park or playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band video games. The kids love this experience. They also offer music instruction (individual or group lessons) for a really reasonable price. No child is left behind with RMC because of a lack of funds - they'll work to find a scholarship opportunity for your kids if there is a need! Great people - great instruction!"
- Koddler Review of RMC's Summer Music Camp
"This was definitely one of the best camps my kids (11 and 13 yrs.) ever did. The studio is run very professionally, top of the line equipment, and very dedicated teachers. My kids were begging to stay for another week, but as we had signed up for the last week of their summer camp series it wasn't possible."
- Yelp Review of RMC's Summer Music Camp
"I just wanted to say Congratulations and a big thank you for such a wonderful music program. He had the BEST time and is so sad that today is the last day. We will definitely look for other camp opportunities throughout the year... "
- Parent of RMC Summer Music Camp Student
"...thank you for providing one of the best experiences ever for my son."
- Denise (parent of RMC Rock Band Camp 2009 student)
"Only place I know of like it. Why is it unique, because of the group atmosphere and their ability to somehow get these different kids to focus and play together. I like that if they need to they can keep one group on their headsets playing together while another group gets the focused attention they need from the teacher.
Why we love RMC is principally due to David and Leslie - they are fantastic with the kids! Keep doing what you are doing! We love you!"
